What's Included

• Three-Block Progression

  Initial Consonants
  The images for the Initial Consonant Block, which lend themselves to reflecting the gesture of the letter: Bear (B), Door (D), Fish (F), Goose (G), King (K), Lamp/light (L), Mountain (M), Swan (S), Tower (T). These pictures come with a list of possible stories and fairy tales that you could consider using to introduce each letter.

  Vowels
  The images for the Vowel Block provide anchor pictures/words beginning with the short vowel sounds of Apple (A), Egg on the Edge (E), Igloo (I), Octopus (O), Umbrella (U)

  Final Consonants
  The images for the Final Consonants Block provide anchor images for the sound/phoneme of each letter. At this point, students don’t need the image to look like the letter- they just need the initial sound of the anchor picture to provide them with the letter’s sound/phoneme: (Cave, Horse, Jellyfish, Nest, Pumpkin, Quail, Racoon, Volcano, Wolf, X (Xavier, the elf), Yak, Zebra).

• How to use these cards

  Each picture can be printed on high quality 8 ½ x 11 matte, photo stock and will add an array of soft, artistically chosen colors to the display space above your classroom blackboard.
